Electric
Boogie
As originally performed by Marcia Griffiths, a Jamaican born reggae singer, she sang backup and toured extensively with Bob Marley's band Electric Boogie started the
"Electric Slide" line dance craze in 1989 Strangely enough, despite it's enormous international popularity, the song never cracked the Top 40 charts
It's
Electric!
You can't see it It's electric! You gotta feel it It's
electric! Ooh, it's shakin' It's electric!
Jiggle-a-mesa-cara She's a pumpin' like a
matic She's a movin' like electric She sure got the boogie
You gotta know it It's
electric Boogie woogie, woogie! Now you can't hold it It's electric Boogie woogie, woogie! But you know it's
there, Yeah here there everywhere
I've got to move, I'm going on a party ride I've got to groove, groove,
groove, And from this music I just can't hide.
Are you comin' with me? Come let me take you on a party ride And I'll teach you,
teach you, teach you I'll teach you the electric slide
Some say it's mystic It's electric Boogie woogie,
woogie You can't resist it It's electric Boogie woogie, woogie You can't do without it It's
electric Boogie woogie, woogie Jiggle-a-mesa-cara she's a pumpin' like a matic She's movin' like electric She sure got the
boogie
Don't wanna lose it It's electric Boogie woogie, woogie But you can't choose

You are incorrect Dan - the original record came out in 1976. The dance was created the following month by myself and can be found at my site
http://ric06379.tripod.com By the way - the song is titled Electric Boogie and the dance is titled The Electric - somewhere along the way - people listened to the lyrics of the song and think that the dance is called The Electric Slide
but The Slide is actually a variation of the original step..

I choreographed the dance in 1976 when The Electric Boogie was first released - can not remember if Marcia was the artist but have been told that it was impossible for me to have choreographed to this song - because the song was copyritten in 1981.. I told them - "Then why would I have called it 'The Electric' and everyone assumed
because of the lyric - that it was called The Electric Slide" My Workmen's Comp hearing shows that 1) I tore my cartilage on 6/17/76 and 2) that it was torn teaching The Electric Slide. (see letter from L.L. at my homepage) .

It sounded exactly like Marcia's 1986 version - the man who wrote the song wrote it for her - I know that - & I'm almost positive that the '86 version was a re-release of the earlier record. I have the 1990 CD release that I used for my video - Which is the same arangement as the original vinyl I used when I started it. The
Problem is - In 1998, they changed the copyright laws - and everyone was scrambling to get their works registered - They said we had 20 years - and I never thought it was going to go this big - so I never worried about the registration until I started finding TV shows and movies using my copyrighted choreography in the years following 1998. That is when I found out that Line Dancer Magazine had
it listed as the best linedance in the world - & now I understand that it stayed in that spot for 10 years. I have been trying for years to contact Marcia - but I keep hitting stone walls - no one is letting me get close to her - so we can discuss it. .
