Who sings this tune I believe is from the 60's???? On her way to work one morning down the path along side the lake. A tenderhearted woman saw a poor half frozen snake. His pretty coloured skin had been all frosted with the dew. Oh well she cried I'll take you in and I'll take care of you. Take me in oh tender woman. Take me in for heavens sake. Take me in tender woman, sighed the snake. Well she wrapped him up all cozy in a coverture of silk and then laid him by the fireside with some honey and some milk..

Yes, it's called The Snake - I also have it by Al Wilson who covered it in 1968 and by Johnny Rivers, but as Pete said, the original artist was Oscar Brown Jr.

Just saw your conversation. I've been trying to learn "The Snake" song for years but I can't remember how the chords and melody go. Do you have a copy I could learn it from. Cheers..

HELP! I'm trying to find the most recent version of The Snake, maybe recorded in the 80's. It was a dance song, sung really gutsy. (gutsily?)
thanks

I too have been trying to find the words to The Snake and the artist, but could not remember the actual name and who performed it. Everyone I asked never heard of it. We used to play it on the jukebox in a bar on the NW side of Chicago in the late 60s. Thanks so much for the info. My husband has an extensive library on his computer and is going to try to get copies by all three artists. Thanks again for solving this mystery..

If you couldn't find the words...here they are. Found on the web.
Lacigolos

On her way to work one mornin'
down the path beside the lake,
a tender-hearted woman saw
a poor, half-frozen snake.
His pretty, colored skin had been
all frosted with the dew.
"Poor thing," she cried, "I'll take you in
and I'll take care of you."
"Take me in, tender woman.
Take me in for Heaven's sake.
Take me in, tender woman,"
sighed the snake.
She wrapped him up
all cozy in a comforter of silk.
And layed him by the fireside
with some honey and some milk.
She hurried home from work that night
and soon as she arrived,
she found that pretty snake
she'd taken in had been revived.
"Take me in, tender woman.
Take me in for Heaven's sake.
Take me in, tender woman,"
sighed the snake.
She clutched to her buxom.
"You're so beautiful," she cried.
"But if I hadn't brought you in
by now you might have died."
She stroked his pretty skin again
and kissed and held him tight.
Instead of saying, "Thanks,"
the snake gave her a viscous bite.
"Take me in, tender woman.
Take me in for Heaven's sake.
Take me in, tender woman,"
sighed the snake.
"I saved you," cried the woman.
"But you've bitten me, but why?
You know your bite is poisonous
and now I'm gonna die."
"Aww shut up, silly woman."
Said the reptile with a grin.
"You knew damn well I was a snake
before you took me in."
"Take me in, tender woman.
Take me in for Heaven's sake.
Take me in, tender woman,"
sighed the snake.
"Take me in, tender woman,"
sighed the slippery snake.
"Take me in, tender woman,"
sighed the snake.
