Theres a song that has lyrics like....
Now (pause)..Billy loves Mary-Ann...Wants to play it by the rules...The chorus is -They're afraid of the heartache...running fast and going nowhere..be careful of what you find there..you might get what you ask for..
Its a very interesting song with a lot of tempo changes
Can someone identify this?

I know Men in Hats and its not that one. However I did hear it on Canadian music stations so it could be a Canadian band. I heard it around 1984. If this message board could attach wave files I could play a sampling of it on guitar. That would probably clinch it..

Thanks a lot Harry. Been looking forever for that song. I'm listening to it now. Really unusual song. Figures it turns out to be Canadian. Wonder which part of the country they're from...

Note: Obscure Canadian band

Track Listing:

HIDE AND SEEK

THE HAUNTING
(JIMMY LOVES MARY-ANN)

THE TRUTH HURTS

THE HARD LINE

SINPLE DREAMS

SOMEDAY

LOOKING FOR YOU

THE JOKE WAS ON ME

CAN'T GET STARTED

Prod. HAYWARD PARROTT
THE FRONT is :

HAUNTING

Gina has a problem
she thinks she's gonna change the world
puts it down on paper
sends it to no one

Lesley gets a phone call
tells her that it's over
wipe the stars out of your eyes
you're talking survival

Jimmy Loves Mary Ann
wants to play by the rules
holds the only dream he can
hopes he's not the only fool

They're afraid of the haunting
running fast and going nowhere
be careful want you want dear
what you're gonna find there

Lesley making movies
likes it all in black and white
brings her into focus
then misses the moment

Now, Gina's at a party
she wants to live forever
if she could just hold on to this
maybe things would be different

Now, Jimmy Loves Mary Ann
wants to play by the rules
holds the only dream he can
hopes he's not the only fool

They're afraid of the haunting
running fast and going nowhere
be careful what you want dear
what you're gonna find there

They're afraid of the haunting
running fast and going nowhere
be careful what you wish for
what you're gonna find there

They're afraid of the haunting
running fast and getting nowhere
be careful what you want dear
what you're gonna find there

Yeaaaaaaa

They're afraid of the haunting
running fast and getting nowhere
be careful what you want dear
what you're gonna find there

Hi Dan. Thanks for providing the link to the other thread discussing the song. It's quite interesting to read a discussion about something we did 20 years ago that had such little airplay. We were an obscure band; we never played live, and we never really had any intentions to do so. It was just a studio project that led to 2 albums. We spent most of our time together recording tv/radio jingles..

Hi Paul,

I loved the "The Haunting" when I was a a kid. When I tried to find it on the net years later I had no luck until now.

Do you know where I could either find the song and/or album.

Any help would be most appreciated.

Regards,
