I remember Russ Hamilton's 1957 hit Rainbow. I just tried to find a bit of information about him on Wikipedia and was surprised to find only an entry for a gambler under his name. Do you have any info about him? If I can any quality info on him I may try to write an entry about
him..

I have added Russ info to Wikipaedia under Russ Hamilton (singer). Russ is presently staying in North Wales. Extremely nice guy. Met him a few years ago and still keeping in touch. Just received a nice Christmas card from him. His other hits such as We will Make Love, Little One, I Had a Dream, Wedding Ring, I still Belong to You,
Drifting & Dreaming and Reprieve of Tom Dooley are extremely popular in Asia in the 50s. He told me that Little One which he wrote for his niece in Canada was his personal favourite. He appeared in a British movie "6-5 special" singing his minor hit "I Had A Dream". He is a legend being the first British to make it into the US chart..

It was mentioned on BBC Radio Merseyside recently by Billy Butler that Russ Hamilton had sadly died. I believe he lived in Buckley North Wales..

That is sad news. I myself was only made aware of the artist and the song Rainbow by my Mum. Being an avid song collecter my Mum would always ask me if I had a copy of this song as it was a special song that she and her Dad shared when he was alive. I sadly never got up to speed with trying to locate the song for her. However,
three days before my Mum passed away I sent a desperate request to the national archives of NZ and received a tape copy of Rainbow in the post at 8am. With much speed I packed up the stereo, flew to the hospice and rigged it up. My Mum was incoherent and had been for 36 hours. The nurse told me to play the song as loud as was still clear as she informed me the chances of Mum hearing it were good.
The only physical movement my Mum made in the last 36 hours of her life was her eyebrows slightly raising when the song started playing. She died at 9am while the song played. This has provided me with a connection to my Mum who was my best friend in the world that cannot be lost. Thank you Russ, please say hello for me..

Are you sure you got that right? ....... I just received a nice Christmas card from Russ Hamilton only very recently. Yes, Russ is staying in Buckley, North Wales and as far as I know in good health and still writing songs. You must have heard about another Russ Hamilton, a
Cornell photographer who passed away recently in December. I managed to find this news in the internet. .

Thanks for the link to Russ Hamilton's "My Space" where I was able to hear him singing "Rainbow." That song has been on my mind (and lips) since I first heard it in 1958. Over the years when I would ask some one if they knew the song they'd say they not only didn't know it but had never even heard of the song.
Because I love rainbows, whenever I'd see one it would remind me of that beautiful song and of course I had to sing it. Yesterday was the first time in a long, long time that I saw a rainbow--there aren't many where I live--and I just had to check the Internet one more time to see what I
could find out about it. I didn't even know who had sung the song.
So, thank you so much for your "message" of where I could hear his recording of that beautiful song. .

Ella, I share your memories re- Rainbow. I dont even know if you will ever read this but as it quite obviously special to you as it is to me, I thought I would offer you a copy of the song which I managed to purchase some 15 years back. I have converted the track to mp3 and it
is 100% clear and clean. You can receive this via e-mail very easily and play it anytime you like from there, even put it on cd. I would be more than happy to gift it to you if you would like. If so, send me an e-mail [email protected] and I will bounce your letter back with the attachment. File is about 3.5 mb so it will take 2-3 minutes to download. As you can see from the post above, I too
have a special connection with this Artist and song. Have a nice day!.

Russ was a good friend, and he was the reason I got into the business,he was a soft spoken man with a witty sense of humor,he was one of the nicest people I,and my group, had ever met,I got the news of his passing a few days ago from his nephew who lives in Canada, his mother, was Russ's sister, and the news just shattered me,as it did
to a lot of Russ's fans and friends,he was one of a kind, the first "Brit" to have a double hit on a single 45 record, and opened the doors for others to follow,he put Liverpool on the musical map, there will never be another Russ Hamilton,I don't know if there is a Rock"n"Roll hall of fame in England,if there is,he should be in it,every now and then you find a "first",and Russ, was definitely a
first. He shall be missed by many, but never forgotten.Sincerely,The Chevelles,The Echoes..
