Hey, Ben..sweety. The lyrics that are WAAAAAAAAAY up the post...not as cryptic as you may want. I had it figured out the second time I read them. Anyway, I thought it was "wrapped up like a douche" but... the lyrics by Springsteen make sense too. "CUT LOOSE like a duece". A "duece" was..hmmm...some type of car. *smiles* (think
Beach Boys "Little Duece Coupe") and... I just think that when he says "And she was blinded by the light. Cut loose like a deuce Another runner in the night" He's saying she just let go, let the world have hell...maybe I'm wrong.*shrug*.

ok...now theres two different lyrics to this song, the Manfred Mann version and the Bruce Sprinsteen version. The Mann version is "revved up like a
deuce another runner in the night" the Springsteen version is "Cut loose like a deuce, Another runner in the night" now whichever you
prefer...take ur pick, buts its definitely not "Rapped up like a douche, another runner in the night" hahahaha thats what is sounds like,
but get ur mind out of the gutter!
Thanks... and just to let you know, im 16 and loving this song! no
worries its still running strong! Alot of teens know it and love it...gotta love the oldies! thanks for the great tunes :D.

I gotta go with the car references, specifically illegal drag racing at night. I am not hip to all the lingo but I have a few guesses. "I tripped the merry-go-round" - the big gear on a supercharger? I am thinking of a scene in Mad Max where Max engages the blower. "the calliope crashed to the ground" - calliope = exhaust pipes
coming straight up off the motor? Crashed to the ground could either be transferring power to the ground or blowing up. "Some all-hot half-shot was headin' for the hot spot snappin' his fingers clappin' his hands" sounds to me like somebody crossed the finish line. "some fleshpot mascot was tied into a lover's knot with a whatnot in her hand" - chick with a handkerchief, or something at the
starting line giving the signal to go. "young Scott with a slingshot finally found a tender spot and throws his lover in the sand" - Slingshot = hole shot? he hits some sand and wipes out (his car is his lover). "she was blinded by the light" - got caught looking at the light. "Cut loose like a deuce another runner in the night" - Now she stomps on it. "She got down but she never got tight" - she
got down the track but never really got it hooked up. There are also sex references. That was what was going on. Fast cars and fast women. .

To me "Blinded by the Light" (Manfred Mann version) was always about partying and rock and roll. It's told through the eyes of a young guy during his first party or perhaps playing his first gig. He starts by meeting interesting people in town (Indians, bums, teenage diplomats) and getting wasted, and starts to grow up. He then
sees a girl in the crowd that was "blinded by the light" which can refer to her being enveloped in the whole scene, whether it be drugs, sex, flashy light/music or any combination. He then runs into a prostitute and a pimp (silicone sister and manager mister) and meets the johns that are checking to see if it is safe to go outside. Then he meets some "preacher" dude that frowns on either partying
or the government and another guy the `chaperone' remembers what it was like to be young when talking to a young girl (moonstone). Then the real success of the party when Scott gets laid. Turn up the music.
"Blinded by the light"-.

Blinded by the light -Police Lights Revved up like a duece -ready to go another runner in the night - trying to
escape
also...
Wrapped up like a duece
(weed)
also... He said "another runner in the night" but he tweaked his own voice by actually saying "roner" you'll notice rappers do this to fit a word or just to be ignorant ... "It's getting hot in her" is actually, "It's
getting hot in here"
to be honest with you though, I dont think he is talking about a car here at all because the reference he makes "revved up like a duece" ... is actually a comparison, and when do you ever make a comparison using exactly what you are trying to compare, as an
example?
I.e. Shiny like a diamond. I am not talking about a diamond being shiny. I'm talking about the glare off of something else.
This theory debunks the whole
car ideas. In my opinion, its about drug use.

"Madman drummers bummers and Indians in the summer with a teenage diplomat In the dumps with the mumps as the adolescent pumps his way into his hat"
-He's talking about being a young man turning into an
adult...
With a boulder on my shoulder feelin' kinda older"
-Like every youngin' he thinks he knows
everything. Boulder on his shoulder is him being cocky, rather than having a chip on his shoulder.
"I tripped" - Just about any reference to the word trip in the 60-70's is exactly what you think it is.
LSD
- the merry-go-round merry as in marry aka mary jane aka mariujana. Everyone is passing around a joint but he is tripping. or he is just refering to the
merry-go-round as being a wild ride that he is on,
"With this very unpleasing sneezing and wheezing the calliope crashed to the ground" - When you are on psychedlics liek LSD or Exctasy, smoke as irritating. He's not having
a good time with all the smoke around and is coughing and hacking. Sneezing = coke Wheezing = pot
"Some all-hot half-shot was headin' for the hot spot snappin' his fingers clappin' his hands And some fleshpot mascot was tied into a lover's knot with a whatnot in her hand And now
young Scott with a slingshot finally found a tender spot and throws his lover in the sand And some bloodshot forget-me-not whispers daddy's within earshot save the buckshot turn up the band"
-here he's talking about all of the characters around him while hes fucked up. they are all
fucked up too. One is a worthless person, the other is in love, tied might be a marriage reference. Bloodshot forgetme not, bloodshot because hes high and paranoid.
"blinded by the light revved up like a deuce another runner in the night Blinded by the light
" - yup hes energetic and revved up. blinded by the light means hes fucked up.
"Some brimstone baritone anti-cyclone rolling stone preacher from the east He says: Dethrone the dictaphone, hit it in its funny bone, that's
where they expect it least And some new-mown chaperone was standin' in the corner all alone watchin' the young girls dance"
here hes talking about another event, he's describing some prudes that hes
met.
"And some fresh-sown moonstone was messin' with his frozen zone to remind him of the feeling of romance
"
-an old man touching himself ... he's impotent, or a man masturbating because he hasnt been with a woman ina long
time
"Yeah he was blinded by the light revved up like a deuce another runner in the night Blinded by the light He got down but he never got tight, but he's gonna make it tonight hes gonna make it through the
night"
-Now the meanign changed, before blinded by the light was about him being on drugs, now it's about this man that was masturbating because he's lonely. The lyric now says that henever got his act together but it's ok because life goes on and he'll be just
fine
"Some silicone sister with her manager mister told me I got what it takes She said I'll turn you on sonny, to something strong, play the song with the funky
break,"
- This is a prostitute and a pimp that he ran into. She and the pimp are offering him sex and she is also offering him hard drugs.
"And go-cart Mozart was
checkin' out the weather chart to see if it was safe to go outside" -talking about another prude, a worry wort.
"And little Early-Pearly came in by her curly-wurly and asked me if I needed a ride,oh she was blinded by the
light, revved up like a deuce another runner in the night" -Again, the meaning has changed. to what this time i dunno could be another drug refernce
"Oh, some hazard
from Harvard was skunked on beer playin' backyard bombardier" - I dunno what backyard bombidier is, but calling him a hazard from harvard obviously means hes a trouble maker and im sure hes up to no good.
"Yes and Scotland
Yard was trying hard, they sent a dude with a calling card, he said, do what you like, but don't do it here Well I jumped up, turnedaround, spit in the air, fell on the ground Asked him which was the way back home He said take a right at the light, keep goin' straight until night, and then boy, you're on your own
"
-One person was sent as a representative of a displeased crowd, probably displeased because he was obviously on drugs. he's telling him he doesnt care if he does drugs but he isnt welcome to do them in his
establishment.
"And now in Zanzibar a shootin' star was ridin' in a side car hummin' a lunar tune Yes, and the avatar said blow the bar but first remove the cookie jar we're gonna teach those boys to laugh too soon
"
-In a different town (or not), blow the bar means leave that bar ... they/he were/was in a bar but on the way out ,, we're gonna get back at them by stealing the tip
jar.
"And some kidnapped handicap was complainin' that he caught the clap from some mousetrap he bought last night, Well I unsnapped his skull cap and between his ears I saw a gap but figured he'd be all right
"
-Here we have the obvious, a dum guy who bought a hooker the night before and got the STD "the clap", He describes that this guy is very dumb
"He was just blinded
by the light revved up like a deuce another runner in the night Blinded by the light Mama always told me not to look into the sights of the sun Oh but mama that's where the fun is "
-Again the meaning has changed, he is now talking about this guy and he may be a dumbass, but who
cares he'll be ok. He also says that mom/everyone lied to him about everything because he's having a blast on the darkside.
Basically this song is about a young man turning into an adult, experiementing with drugs and women, and about all of the people and things that have happen
to him along the way

rumor...its either that or he's singing ruiner...lol.

Man! What if this song turns out to be another "sound of silence" (Simon and Garfunkel)? People have been finding meanings in that song for decades! The only problem is, the song has no meaning! It's simply a bunch of sentences strung together!.
