Aaron,
The MMEB version of BBTL is floating around on the internet as an mp3 mis-labelled as ELO, hence the confusion. As you rightly imply, ELO did not record this song.

The words following "Blinded by the Light" happen to be "Revved up like a deuce another runner in the night." The song is about running rum in the 20's and 30's during prohibition. Other parts of this song are about drug use (Momma always told me not to look into the eyes of the sun but momma that's where the fun is). That's clearly about Coke. and, yes, Hindrix's "Purple Haze" is a form of LSD from mainly the late 60's..

Next you're going to tell me Nora Jones' 'Don't Know Why I Didn't Come' is about faked orgasm. :).

Bruce Springsteen wrote it (and recorded it), but the biggest hit version of the song (a US #1 hit) was by Manfred Mann's Earth Band (1976).

"revved up like a deuce" it's a car thing ..."another runner in the night" rum running .... ..... when's the last time any one wrapped up a douche?
and since when is a Springsteen or Manfred Mann song a ONE HIT WONDER? They have both had a number of hits

Who ever said either one WAS?

As you may have discovered by reading the forum, this fourm is for general music discussions and more popularly, for lost-and-found music, not just exclusively for discossing OHWs.

Rum running? Oh brother. I direct your attention again to "Born to Run". Do you think that was also about rum running? Hell no. At night kids race around in their revved up rides chasing after sex and sometimes drugs. Read the entire lyrics and tell me that drugs and sex (mostly sex)and adolesence are not what he's talking about. If you want rum running try Copperhead Road by Steve Earle. Although technically it's about whisky, not rum, at least the concept is right.

It IS "Revved up like a Deuce ,another roller in the night"..Deuce meaning the car ....Deuce Coupe....Revved up like a deuce....(meaning all worked up & ready to go)
The song is about teenage angst.Wanting to experiment with sex, booze & all the things forbidden by the parents of the time. the song is FULL of parables

Reading this message board the thing that annoyed me the most was how many people didn't finish reading it before replying. If you read this and half way through get angry at someone who's saying the lyrics aren't what you thought they were keep reading until you get to the end! So many people wrote defensive replies as if arguing with the last post, but in fact they were agreeing with it! For example "The car was purple" "The car was pink" "No! The car was totally pink!!!" Come on! If you're so eager to reply realise that you're eager to look like an idiot. As I was reading it I kept wanting to write the reply that I just wrote, but I waited until reading the whole thing in case someone had already written a reply similar to mine. Thank you!

Gee Meredith, if the open clamor of a public forum annoys you so much maybe you should try reading a book or watching television. That should give you a calm sense of continuity. I agree that many postings seem pointless or redundant to me but I defend the right of the poster to express his opinion in an open debate..

Hi Meredith, Darling this forum is for the sole purpose of having fun. No one is here to change the world or right the worlds wrongs; we're here to have a good time and talk about music (and you are welcome to join in with us). Next, anyone who expresses an opinion here knows that they are risking the possibility of looking like a total goof (actually that's part of the fun). So, in conclusion, be kind to your fellow music lovers - you will find that they are more like you than you think..

Hello Ben and Hz.
I did indeed wish to talk about music, and it's too bad that I can't right the world's wrong. Hz, I will take your advice about reading a book... or in other words "to chill out". I also respect people's freedom of speech. It's just too bad that the people of the world who wish to speak their mind end up annoying me.

Ok Meredith, as long as you respect the right of others to speak then I'll support your right to be angry. :) However, I believe that anger causes stress which shortens your life span and frowning causes wrinkles. So cheer up and shine on. I recommend you start a new thread about something which interests you and then we can talk about that..

Hi Meredith, When people have the right to free speech you can't expect everyone to say things that you like, but the occasional aggravation you feel with someone's words is a very small price to pay for that freedom. Consider this...there are people in this world who are tortured, beaten, raped, and killed because of the words they say! A slip of the tongue in this country is usually dealt with by somebody blowing a raspberry or extending a middle finger at you! Speaking for me, I would rather deal with the fleeting emotional impact of an insult than a bullet through the back of my head! .
