at the end of the "revved up like a deuce" chorus, the line is "she got down, but she never got tight, she's gonna makeit through the night." a great song, but does any one have the music for it or a webpage that would have it?.

In reading this thread, I have been greatly entertained but also amazed/perplexed at the number of people who believe every song has a specific meaning and further, if you can't figure it out, it must be about drugs. I don't mean to be a smarty pants, but study a little history about songwriting and songwriters and you'll discover
all kinds of reasons a song was written--stream of conciousness, beat poetry (which is what "Blinded" sounds like), nonsense lyrics to fit an already established melody, or just some words that somebody liked the sound of. Look at Steve Miller: "...'cause I speak with the pompitous of love." Pompitous is a made-up word that fits the music. As a songwriter myself, I usually come up with music
first so I have to make words fit. Or occasionally I like the sound of certain words together. Just my two cents... .

Yeah "Thedouchin' in the night is the most popular misconception of Bruce Springsteen's Lyrics...Having just read the complete lyrics myself, I have to conclude the Brucie was takin'a really bad trip (a bummer)when he psychidelicized these words together. Can you imagine Springsteen and Bof dylan havibg a coherent conversation
after droppin'some acid???? I'd like to be there with a recorder.....it'd make a great "basement tape"
Broz.

Just to put my 10 cents worth in...
The Deuce they are refering to is a car. The "Big Duece" was a 1932 Ford Roadster, try this link for pic's/drawings
http://www.roadsters.com/deuce/#Info
They were talking about his song on the radio recently (Perth, Australia)..

Hi Jackcapture, I agree. I'm a songwriter and a lot of words and phrases I use are intentionally obscure simply because the true meaning is too complicated to convey or deeply personal. Can anyone make out what I am saying in these lines? "Icy invention in the radio hum,I hear the madness from a flare in the Sun,I'm moving closer
to the ultimate time, a never highway from the crystal design"...Naturally it is assumed that this is refering to drug use, sorry they're not even close..

Your lyrics obviously refer to your love of wearing work boots & leather chaps and your desire to get to know your pets a lot closer than most people are comfortable with. Am I right, or am I right?.

A Deuce is a type of CAR. It was the quintessential muscle car or hot rod as they were called. The car was a 1932 Ford Deuce Coupe (also immortalized in the Beach Boy song "Little Duece Coupe"). Saying "revved up like a duece" makes perfect sense..

The lyrics book is by the syndicated newswriter, Dave Berry, but I can't remember the name of the book.
I always thought the "there's a bad moon on the rise", by Credence Clearwater, was "a bathroom on the right".

I think he was most likely refering to a '32 Ford, but I have also heard that early 60s Novas or Chevy IIs, were called deuces as well..

great song you mentioned back there, and yes, smartypants, pompitous as you said, is a made up word with a couple of ways of spelling it, it seems.

You will unquestionably hear the madness if you are anywhere near a radio reciever. Is this making any sense now? Maybe a little? Solar Flares? Radio hash? static? Here's the meaning: The solar flare represents a source of radio that has not been homogonized and packaged and forced onto the listening public. Its real, and it
posseses unbearable energy that cannot be contrived by a ...beat box. There are no loops, samples, or rip-offs of real musicians (and their REAL work from the past). The song speaks of sorrow since radio (with a few exceptions) is little more than a reciever for garbage these days. All the good music (from real musicians) has been pushed to the side by main stream media in favor of mechanical,
artificially derived pulp that is almost as irritating as radio hum. Have you noticed that there are stations that play music that is so dull it's not worth wasting the electricity to listen to it? It's all the same! It reminds me of what Steve Martin said about Mc Donalds food "it's all made from a big vat of green stuff". I already know what's going to happen...a bunch of little dopes are going
to start arguing with me that sampling is an art form and music is better today than in the "old days" BUT I will lay you odds that most of the "artists" that are cranking this fluff couldn't actually play (on a real instrument) the hooks their stealing from other true artists if their life depended on it..

I've got to agree with you Ben. And we therefore become old and pass it to the next generation. My parents said the same thing about the music I liked as a teen and their parents said the same thing about their music..

So true Jack,
Maybe I'm just getting old and intolerant. I've caught my self condemning Marylyn Manson then I remember that when I was 17 I was a "died in the wool" Alice Cooper
fan -after all (as I fantasize), Alice sang about "innocent, fun things" like dead babies, and necrophilia. I guess I see your point...

Interesting what you say about making up words to fit. Check out De Do Do Do De Da Da Da by The Police. For years I have been convinced that one line goes 'Their logic ties you up and arepts(!) you.' Even Sting's reaction in the video seems to indicate a nonsense
lyric. However I have just looked up the lyrics and apparently it is 'Their logic ties you up and rapes you.' I preferred the first one !!! .
