This is the best thread I've ever seen... really awesome contributions.
A few others that I listened to driving around at nights (still
listening):
I haven't seen anyone mention The Smiths & Morrissey who have so many amazing songs it's ridiculous... a few of the lesser knows that I lover are:
The Smiths - Well
I Wonder Morrissey - Seasick, Yet Still Docked The Smiths - Reel Around The Fountain The Smiths - Suffer Little Children The Smiths - I Won't Share
You The Smiths - This Night Has Opened My Eyes
And one of my all-time favorite songs... The Smiths - There Is A Light That Never Goes
Out "In a darkened underpass I thought 'Oh, God, my chance has come at last,' but then a strange fear gripped me and I just couldn't ask." Such a brilliant mix of drepression and inspiration..

I have the last part of a 90's alternative song stuck in my head and I WANT IT OUT!! The part I know goes like this...
"Do You Wanna Die? Do You Wanna
Die? *Scream* Do You Wanna Die?! Do You Wanna Die?!
And I will promise you..." Something.. something... And so help ME if I
don't figure it out I'm gonna start asking people that question from the song...

I've been looking for a song that ends with "are you disenchanted (pause) like me". I remember the guy singing like billy corrigan, but maybe i'm just remembering wrong. I've been looking for years... It came out around
94-97.
Nobody's mentioned the vandals (there was an X-files episode where the main character was a fan, controlled lightning, and killed jack black). Really liked their *Live Fast Diarrhea*
album.
Quicksand - Dine Alone Cornershope - Brimful of Asha (no one has pointed out that the album version is slow and kinda
sucks) Kenny Wayne Shepherd - Blue on Black Sneaker Pimps - 6 Underground and Spin Spin Sugar (but only the remixed
versions) Megadeath - cover of Black Sabath's Paranoid Sepultura - Ratamahatta (saw concert footage of this on a PBS show. I wish i had that version; they all start
wailing on drums at the end, and the camera pans to the most bored girl in the whole audience.).

Didnt see Heather Nova on the list her One Hit was "Walk This World" but the whole "Oyster" CD is awesome. Also Drain (STH) "Simon Says" though that may have been 2000+.

I've been racking my brain since, what 1996ish for a song. I found it today. I've bitched about it for almost 10 years now. Fluorescein is the band name, and Cathy's On Crank is the name of the song. This is A MUST to check out, but good luck finding it....
