While enrolled as students at Leeds University in 1977, vocalist Jon King, guitarist Cindy Gill, bassist Dave Allen and drummer Hugo Burnham
formed Gang of Four, creating some of the most enduring music between 1978 and 1983.
In 1982, Allen left after three consecutive solid albums. Gill and King stayed aboard, though, producing the soul/R&B record Hard, with the assistance of Ron and Howard
Albert.
Gang of Four went through a revival in the early 1990's with the release of A Brief History of the Twentieth Century and the Peel Sessions Album, the first of which included the hit
"I Love a Man in Uniform."
