In the early 1960's, Ernie Maresca enjoyed modest success as a songwriter in the New York doo wop/rock 'n roll scene. He wrote several of
Dion's biggest hits, including "Runaround Sue," "The Wanderer," "Lovers Who Wander, "A Lover's Prayer" and "Donna the Prima Donna."
Maresca was persuaded to pursue a career as a solo artist, in spite of the fact that he did not consider himself a singer. In 1962, however, he scored his sole hit under his name,
with "Shout Shout (Knock Yourself Out). The song registered at #6.
Maresca experienced difficulty sustaining success, however. He was head of Laurie Record's publicity department by the
1970's.
